ASME B16.5 - B16.47 - MSS SP-44 ???

ASME B16.5 - B16.47 - MSS SP-44 ???

ASME B16.5 - B16.47 - MSS SP-44 ???

For large flanges (>24"Ø), I've always used B16.47.  A question has arisen around here about dimensions for "ANSI" vs MSS dimensions.  Seems a 30"Ø valve was ordered with 600# "ANSI" flanges.  I'm thinking this means B16.47 since "ANSI" is now spelled "ASME".

So the question for the group here becomes: Is there any difference between "ANSI" and MSS SP-44 / ASME B16.47?

RE: ASME B16.5 - B16.47 - MSS SP-44 ???

Now... does it mean "a" or "b"

ANSI B16.5 - American standard flanges
B16.47 a - serie is former MSS SP-44
B16.47 b - serie is former API 605
see the notes to the right.

Hope they ordered 2 of them.

We will design everything from now on using only S.I. units ... except for the pipe diameter.  Unk. British engineer

Ah... missed that Series A/B bit.  If they ordered the valve as B16.47-A we'll be OK with the MSS SP-44 flanges, otherwise, we have to get B16.47-B flanges to match.  Dimensions are a little different.

Now I have to find out just exactly what the client is getting after he ordered it as simply "ANSI" 600# RF Flange.  :p
