Function of a Standpost
Function of a Standpost
(OP)
What are the main functions of a standpost? drinking Water storage? surge control?
Since I have seen only the photographs (From outside they look like big cylindrical shafts) I am curious to find out more details on these.
How big and tall are they?
What type of inlet, outlet and control arrangements do they have?
If used as water storage structures will they have water aging problems? If so what type of mixing arrangement do they usually have?

Standpipes are mostly used in rural areas and are more or less the poor man's version of an elevated water storage tower. Standpipes function like elevated water storage towers.
However, standpipes are more susceptible to water quality problems because the water will stratify, especially in summer. Standpipes also have a large volume of unusable water (the water volume below the minimum low pressure set point).
One should install a mixing system to help prevent the water aging issues.

Thanks for correcting me. Should be "standpipe" and not standpost.

What are sizes of the standpipes you have installed? Were these in US? What material?
