MTC: date of issuance & ASME edition

MTC: date of issuance & ASME edition

MTC: date of issuance & ASME edition

(OP)
So the company placed a purchase order for forged carbon steel flanges (SA-105) this current year of February 2011. Upon reviewing the MTC, I noticed that its date was 2009. I also noticed that the ASME edition mentioned on the MTC was 2007. I was just wondering about the following :

1. Is the date on the MTC the actual date of production of the material or is it just date of issuance of the MTC document itself ?

2. If the answer to the above question is "yes" , then why on earth are we being supplied with material that is 3 years old and hence certainly manufactured to an outdated spec of ASME SA-105 ?

3. Shouldn't the ASME edition mentioned on the MTC be 2010 since the order was placed in february of 2011 and since the latest ASME edition/addendum becomes effective 6 months after its date of issuance, namely July of every year?

Thanks in advance.

RE: MTC: date of issuance & ASME edition

Your first two questions can really only be answered by the manufacturer.  I suspect that you will not be happy with the answers.  The third question I'd answer "yes," but it may depend on what your purchase order specified.

Did the MTC (manufacturer test certificate??) come with the supplied material from the manufacturer?  Are you sure that the MTC actually applies to your material and isn't just a photocopy that's being used over and over?  Did you choose a reputable vendor ... or did low bid win out?

If it's the latter, I hope you have a strong purchase order that clearly spelled out what was required -- such as the use of the latest ASME Code.

Thanks for the prompt response vpl.

With regards to your questions,

- Yes,the MTC was submitted to us by the manufacturer.

- Yes, The submitted MTC is relevent to our order but its a photocopy like you said.

- and Yes, we have an approved manufacturer's list listing this particular manufacturer.

- and last but not least, our purchase order only specified "SA-105" without elaborating on the latest applicable edition.

Does this help ?

thanks again vpl. I hope others can provide their valuable input on this.

UncleBen, looks like you got what was ordered.  Might want to 'tighten up' the wording of your ASME-material Purchase Orders.
