Caculating an Attic

Caculating an Attic

Caculating an Attic

(OP)
I need some clarification from someone who has had experience using TYCO attic heads. I have attached my sprinkler layout for the attic in .pdf form.

I'm having a hard time understanding what the spec sheet is saying as far as procedure with the calcs.  Its a dry system so from what I have gathered from the examples in the spec sheets I need to calc the 7 most remote attic heads plus 2 standard spay sprinklers. Is this correct?

RE: Caculating an Attic

If I understand your layout correctly, you are using BB and HIP sprinklers, with SSU in the larger dormer areas on the sides.

So, you will calculate per Fig 20-A-2.

That means you calculate the 7 most demanding sprinklers.  This could be all BB or some combination of BB/HIP.

You also need to prove the most demanding 9 sprinklers with no more than 7 being BB sprinklers.

Often times, my 7 head calc is incorporated into my 9 head calc and I only need to submit 1 calculation.  You may want to run several different areas to see how it plays out.

If this doesn't clear it up, I will try to clear up any other questions you have.  I use these heads a lot!
