File Hanging Up...for you as well?

File Hanging Up...for you as well?

File Hanging Up...for you as well?

Just curious to see if others will see the same performance hit with this file.

Just edit the sketch, then exit.  I see a 7-8 second delay before the file responds.

If you see it, any idea why this is occurring?  Saving takes 30 seconds.

Look forward to any comments!  thanks.  This is swx 2010 sp 0.0.

RE: File Hanging Up...for you as well?

File response was instant. Saving took less than 2 seconds.

Is that the only file that hangs?

RE: File Hanging Up...for you as well?

You guys are quick!

I've had a few files do this to me but not all.  Sounds like a video card issue rather than a file issue.  I'll do some exploring.  thanks

Well, two different computers side by side with different graphics cards have the OPEN GL option greyed out.

Hmm, not sure what that means?

RE: File Hanging Up...for you as well?

Just greyed out, or selected and greyed out?

If you have a Radeon or GeForce card installed, they are not suitable for SW.

RE: File Hanging Up...for you as well?

It is unselected and greyed out, and the real view button is operational.  The problem isn't consistent from file to file.

Graphics card is nvidia quadro, 3.19GHz processor, 3GB RAM

RE: File Hanging Up...for you as well?

"Graphics card is nvidia quadro" ... FX???? or NVS or ????

Are you able to update to the latest SP?

Have you checked the graphics driver is approved per http://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/videocardtesting.html

Which OS are you using? If Vista or Win7, do you have the Aero scheme enabled?

RE: File Hanging Up...for you as well?

(OP)
windows xp, nvidia quadro fx 3400/4400 which is not approved for 2010.  I was aware of this, but the problem has only been present in 2 or 3 files to date (out of hundreds of files).

Oh, one computer is SP 0.0 and the other is SP 2.1.  They behave the same.

I did manage to compare the performance for the SP 0.0 version...

open gl checked:
time to open file - 10 secs
CTRL-Q until file responds: 8 secs
Time to save file - 35 secs

open gl unchecked:
time to open file - 9 secs
CTRL-Q until file responds: 7 secs
Time to save file - 32 secs

I guess that points towards a somewhat corrupt file?

RE: File Hanging Up...for you as well?

"I guess that points towards a somewhat corrupt file?"
If the file was corrupt, I would think ctopher & I would have experienced the same problem.

Although,
"...the problem has only been present in 2 or 3 files to date (out of hundreds of files)"
would suggest corrupt files.

Other than getting your VAR involved, all I can suggest at this stage is to update to the latest SP, and delete and re-install a more suitable graphics driver.

RE: File Hanging Up...for you as well?

(OP)
Thanks for your time.  I updated to the latest driver earlier then to the one you linked, but the file behaves the same on SP 0.0 and 2.1.

I'll look into upgrading the SP to see if the issue is still around.  thanks

RE: File Hanging Up...for you as well?

The drivers are geared toward SW versions rather than SP updates.
The updates rarely (if ever) affect the driver.
