Remote Racking 400V or 10kV Switchgear

(OP)
Hi,

Does anyone have experience of using remote racking of either 400V or 10kV switchgear in an IEC/EN country?

Thanks,

Sean

RE: Remote Racking 400V or 10kV Switchgear

We have a remote racking unit for 11kV distribution gear. It works. What else...?

Yep, done all the time, remote racking is becoming the norm in many countries.

Thanks for the replies guys:

Scotty: Did you purchase the kit from a third party or did you get the remote racking functionality built into the switchgear?

That switchgear is about the same age as me, and as far as I know the racking device is a GEC unit. It is a free-standing device with a power cord which plugs in to a wall socket and a pendant controller which gets the operator out of the immediate area (with a masonary wall between the operator and the unit in our case). It probably came with the original installation. I'll try to find out a bit more for you if it has a nameplate or if there's a manual in the archive.

Safe-T-Rack usually requires modifications to your switchgear doors. CBS arc safe has an office in the UK and systems designed for IEC applications, they have universial models that work on any rotary type racking mech (They also have a extraction type unit) that requires no modifications to your equipment and they also have single use smaller models designed for specific breaker types.
