Fire Line Size
Fire Line Size
(OP)
Hello,
We have a large size temporary contractor staging area for an industrial site in which we have an above ground 8" line proposed. Near the site is a 6" Fire Line that runs away from the site for about 500' to a 12" Fire Line. Would it be feasible to connect our 8" proposed line to this 6" existing line?
Thanks

RE: Fire Line Size
Generally an 8-Inch water main is the minimum size for a fire service.
The recommended fire flow will vary somewhat based on the occupancy of the building/site which is not stated. You also do not state the pressure in the existing fire line.
RE: Fire Line Size
As bimr comments you do have to have some actual data to build on. Simply stated is needed information for dimensioning 'worst case demand': simultanously water amount (and pressure) for all outlets, balancing this with inlet amount and pressure, taking pipeline losses into consideration.
This can often to some degree be simplified, and some calculations are better than none.
For many cases regrettably only the pipeline size is taken into consideration, hoping for the miracle that inlet will balance and give the necessary amount and pressure for outlets when needed.
