Hi, I was wondering if ASME gives some suggestion about location of inyection point in piping systems??? is a good practice choose an elbow as a location??

thanks

RE: Inyection points

Unless, somehow, the specific location of an injection point had an impact on the pressure integrity of the piping, ASME has no opinion about about such details.  This is a process issue, and not the purvue of the design Codes.

If your injection fluid is of a significantly different temperature than the fluid into which it is being injected, then there may be concerns for high-cycle thermal fatigue.  However, the piping Codes only tell you THAT you have to consider it, not HOW to consider it.

RE: Inyection points

ASME doesn't, but NACE does in Publication 34101 Refinery Injection & Process Mixing Points

Thanks Steve and TGS4

RE: Inyection points

Also look at API-570.  It has a lot of requirements for on-stream monitoring of injection points.  You can infer the necessary requirements from that.

I agree, ASME B31.1 & B31.3 are silent on injection.
