Large weldment and blanchard grinding in upstate South Carolina area

(OP)
I am trying to locate a shop that can fabricate and machine large plates as well as weldments in the Greenville/Spartanburg South Carolina area.  Typical size of base plate is 3800mm x 1800mm x 50mm with a tolerance of +/- 0.1mm.  Flatness is critical.

Plenty of fab shops, but not aware of any capabilities like that in Upstate (but could be wrong).  You might have to look in ATL metro area.  Or have it fab'd and shipped from American Grinding.  Blanchard may / may not give you the tolerances you need.

I don't know if they still do it, but decades ago, Ryerson employed application engineers who knew which shops could do what in their area, and were invaluable in finding fab sources.

Might be some shops in Charlotte area that fabricate setup plates for the race teams.

Call the Big Siemens generator and gas turbine manufactoring facility in Charlotte.

They handle that big of casting, forgings, and machined surfaces regularly, with accuracies much higher and tolerances much lower all the time.

The machining consumables, and specialized tooling (lathes, mills, CNC) and cranes and trained labor will come with a larger "overhead" price for a big company like Siemens than a smaller mom-and-pop machine shop with only a forklift for a crane, but then again, you are not looking at a small part.   Also, you may face a conflict with emergent Siemens repair work and "in-shop" priorities for the big lathes on the production line for generators or GT's, but if you are a paying client, then the facility manager needs to fit you to his schedule according to your contract.

GE has one of their major turbine (Frame Gas Turbines) operations in the Greenville area.  I can't picture it that there aren't several shops with this capability supporting them.
