Shipping Containers for housing

(OP)
I was wondering if anyone out there had considered R values for modified shipping containers used in high seismic zones.  I have an extensively modified container and am using the frame at the short end as a sort of an orginary moment frame, low R value (1), and was considering using an R of 4 where the openings in the long walls are reinforced by full height tubes at the jambs.

RE: Shipping Containers for housing

I have seen it done and your approach is probably just fine - didn't really look at it that long.

Couple of things come to mind.

How are you going to insulate it??  Anchor it?  Join them together?

And many of these have been made by many people with huge varying degrees of quality.  Inspect carefully.

Hope you like 7' wide rooms

RE: Shipping Containers for housing

There have been residential structures, and jokes, made of this construction type.  Good luck.  bigsmile
