Welding in already formed assembly

Welding in already formed assembly

Welding in already formed assembly

(OP)
I have an assembly with different parts, sub-assemblies etc. I need to form some welds between some parts. I can select INSERT/WELDING/FILLET and it works perfectly.
Here comes a problem. When I select INSERT/WELDING/GROOVE i get a massage...

ALERT:
"Assemblies allow promotions is off, and Groove weld assembly data linking method is set to promote"

As I can assume I need to change Assemblies allow promotion from off to on. Also I would like to have full preparation for V or some other type of groove weld and I would like to have that change incorporate to corresponding parts so that when I open parts I see that preparation both in model and draft for all parts that have been changed due to welding preparation.

Can anybody help me with this problem. I must add that I am new to UGS but I have experience with some other parametric software like Pro/E and SolidWorks.

RE: Welding in already formed assembly

Goto File - Utilities - Customer Defaults.
On the left side goto Assemblies then General.
Now you will see a tab called Interpart Modeling
check if Allow Associative Interpart Modeling = OK
and Allow Promote Body = YES.
This could be the problem.
Keep in mind that you need to restart NX before changes will apply.

Best regards,

Michaël.

RE: Welding in already formed assembly

If you want to see the modified details for the components after the weld prep, you need to change the weld setting to linked, instead of promote, I think. Promoted body changes do not show in the original file.

Thx! It works!

@looslib

Yes, you are right, parts stay unchanged, the only change is in assembly views, when I cut assembly I can see V joint as it should look.

RE: Welding in already formed assembly

Hi,
I need to make updates in an assembly:
Two of the components required welding design. The previous user created another component(the third, a welding part) for that.
My question is: Should the welding design be created as a component of the assembly or as a 3D data geometry of the assembly file?

Thanks
