To allow weld repair with unqaulified procedure?

To allow weld repair with unqaulified procedure?

Just wondering if anyone here has ever allowed a vendor to use an unqualified weld repair procedure for a "minor" repair?

prior to heat treatment or otherwise?

cast SDSS part.

RE: To allow weld repair with unqaulified procedure?

Suppose someone has.

Are you going to use that as a basis for your decision?

NO
i already have my mind set, but i know there are people smarter than me.

so, i ask.

RE: To allow weld repair with unqaulified procedure?

I have never pre-approved a repair on a piece of equipment that required a qualified repair program/procedure, but it has happened on our equipment because of communication problems. Sh*t happens, you evaluate what was done and decide if what was done can remain or must be re-repaired.

still trying to figure out which Code (API, ASME, etc) applies to this piece of equipment.

parts are for pump internals - new construction

RE: To allow weld repair with unqaulified procedure?

Its the most 'minor' repairs that cause the biggest problems.  Like touching up 4" thick steel with a tiny spot of stick electrode, without preheat (because it's only a small weld and no one will ever know).

In general, use only vendors who have a license to operate and play by the book.
