Aluminum Welding
Aluminum Welding
(OP)
I am need of calling out an aluminum weld in the general notes of a dwg.
The aluminum is 6061-T6 schedule 40 pipe.
What is a proper weld electrode?

we usually call out the structural steel weld electrode on our structural fab dwgs.
I wanted to include a weld electrode for aluminum handrail fabs.
RE: Aluminum Welding
some are "seal" welds if that even makes sense.

What weld do you call out for coped handrail (coped t-joints) ?

I checked AWS D1.2 and selected E4043...seems E5356 is acceptable as well?
Thoughts?

What variables associated with weld performance are of most importance? Are you reheat treating the pipe after welding?
RE: Aluminum Welding
Literally nothing is being done after fab to improve strength or appearance.
