Rotating parts within part files

Rotating parts within part files

Rotating parts within part files

(OP)
I have used the mirror body feature to generate the lobes on a camshaft, i wondered if there is a way i can rotate each section of the mirrored parts to have the cam lobes for each cylinder 90degrees apart, help would be appreciated,

thanks

RE: Rotating parts within part files

Instance geometry, instance feature, and pattern face are 3 options that come to mind. Take a look at instance geometry first (usually found at: Insert -> Associative copy -> instance geometry if you don't see it here, you may have to change your role or customize your menu), it is more powerful than instance feature and has the new, updated dialog boxes. Pattern face can be found in the synchronous tools and will work on a parametric or 'dumb' file.

RE: Rotating parts within part files

If the lobes are already created, you can move them with Synchronous Modeling>Move Face and use "angle" as the Motion type.

RE: Rotating parts within part files

what I would do is to somewhat combine what the two previous posters mentioned.
First I would instance the lobes to where they would be in the proper location but not at the proper rotation.
Then I would use syncronous modeling -> move face to rotate the lobes to their proper orientation. When you do the "move face" you must select all of the faces of the lobe (usually selecting with a rectangle) and then use the pull-down in the menu to find the best way to rotate them.
