Gas Turbine storage

Gas Turbine storage

(OP)
Hi,
My project will receive three 400 MW gas turbines which are new but have been stored at the OEM for about 1 year since their manufacture. My question is: what best practices should have been employed for storage of these units and what tests/inspections should be performed at the OEM works prior to shipping the units to the construction site?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

RE: Gas Turbine storage

Before I give you an answer, what brand and type of turbine?

RE: Gas Turbine storage

besides the std factory tests for vibration and mechanical integrity... i would suggest:
full borescope inspection
visual inspection of bearings.

RE: Gas Turbine storage

The rotors need to be rotated once in a while.

RE: Gas Turbine storage

All OEM's have their own specifications for long term storage of units and parts.

These specs are usually given to customers that will have the unit sitting waiting to be installed... the reason being that the warranty is limited if the units were not taken care of properly prior to installation.

One option is to have them produce those specs and the records showing that they complied with their own specs.

saludos.

RE: Gas Turbine storage

Most turbines also have an impact sensor during transport.  It is a way for the OEM to see if their machine was dropped or something similar just in case a major failure happens during commissioning, for insurance purposes

RE: Gas Turbine storage

1 Year stoarge at OEM - should not be a concern.
