Mirror components nonconcentric in 2011 SP3/4 (OK in SP2)

Mirror components nonconcentric in 2011 SP3/4 (OK in SP2)

This is driving me nuts. I created an assembly in 2010. Time goes by no issue. Fast foward to 2011 SP3 and my mirrored part is now nonconcentric. If i open in SP2 and save all is ok. If i open in SP3 or 4 and save it goes non concentric. My reseller tells me it is because SW uses center of gravity to mirror. Im not satisfied with this answer for the obvious reasons. Ive got lots of time into an assembly that i cant use anymore. Reseller says they will alert me of SR status.

Please help. Im getting frustrated with my resellers confidence in themselves.

RE: Mirror components nonconcentric in 2011 SP3/4 (OK in SP2)

Weird!

When both 1/2" Dia holes and the 3/4"-10 Tapped hole are suppressed, the concentricity is OK.

That's gotta be a bug!

RE: Mirror components nonconcentric in 2011 SP3/4 (OK in SP2)

Right!!..I would love some more feedback because reseller is insisting this is the way SW works...!!

Again they say comp. mirror works off COG. That seems silly, although it does seem to be whats happening.

Here is all i can find on mirror center points. If this "d" applies to other planes then it would indeed be nonconcentric?? Not sure.

RE: Mirror components nonconcentric in 2011 SP3/4 (OK in SP2)

OK, so if you supress any nonsymetrical features in this parts it goes concentric. Once you reintroduce them it goes nonconcentric. It does seem to be affected by COG however counterintuitive it may seem. Also the fact that this only happens it SP3/4 is indicative of something fishy.

This is the only data i can find on how mirror centers work. Now according to this diagram the COG is the defining position relative to the mirror plane. Is it also the definig position relative to other planes? It does seem so, i think this is an error

SW has not responded to my SR yet, but again my reseller seems to think all is ok which is frustrating the crap out of me.

My Reseller insists this is ok and will not submit to SW. What do you guys think? And how would i subvert my reseller and go directly to SW. Can i do that?

RE: Mirror components nonconcentric in 2011 SP3/4 (OK in SP2)

You already did go direct to SW via https://forum.solidworks.com/thread/46189?tstart=0

Another way is to use the Feedback link (top RH corner of the Help page) to make comment on this stupidity.
http://help.solidworks.com/2011/English/SolidWorks/sldworks/AllContent/SolidWorks/Core/Assemblies/c_Mirror_Example-Orientation_of_Mirrored_Instances.htm?id=2d10cc20cb814f8daaa26f48bc87733b#Pg0
That link goes directly to a SW product development team member. I have had good response after recently using that option.

You could also use the Send as email option to contact one of the SW site moderators.

Yes i did. Im just double posting to get some feedback. Thank you very much for the advice. Im relatively new to this process. Im brand new actually...

RE: Mirror components nonconcentric in 2011 SP3/4 (OK in SP2)

If I try to move the original part, even in a direction that it is constrained from moving, the mirrored part snaps into place and becomes concentric. Strange behaviour!

RE: Mirror components nonconcentric in 2011 SP3/4 (OK in SP2)

Are these mirrored parts being created in the assembly, or as "insert mirrored component" in a seperate process?  We tried out the mirror components in assemblies and very quickly stopped using it because the parts where being inaccurately placed.

mirror components in assemblies

RE: Mirror components nonconcentric in 2011 SP3/4 (OK in SP2)

JAYDEE23, I'm not surprised that you are having these issues.  Like I said, we do not mirror in assemblies, but make our mirror parts off to the side and mate them in individually.  I also don't like the way SW creates configurations in the parts that are being mirrored:(
