reinforment of nozzle, factor of safty

(OP)
Hi All,

Lead by my other question to fabricate Tee,

Now I have another question,

Now I am designing as per ASME B31.3

When work out the reinforcement of the nozzle,

required reinforcement area A1, and available reinforcement areas, A2+A3 ( integral reinforced, no pad)

the code only required that A1>A2+A3,  but for a factor of safety concern, I am thinking should I use a value, eg ((A2+A3)-A1/A1 greater than 25% or 20% as acceptable criteria?

Could someone please comment on this? Am I being too conservative?

Cheers

RE: reinforment of nozzle, factor of safty

Yes, you are being too conservative.  The area replacement method is in and of itself conservative.  Don't sweat it - millions of nozzles/branch connections have been designed using these rules.  Of course, make sure to consider the effects of loads other than internal pressure...
