basic hand calc's for butterfly valve's

basic hand calc's for butterfly valve's

Hi guys,

what are the most basic / obvious hand calc's regarding butterfly valve design?

Is it the shear in the stem? Or is it the deflection of the disc or something else?

Again, thank you kindly!

RE: basic hand calc's for butterfly valve's

321GO,

Stem shear calculations are important, sometimes the discs are fastened to the stem with a pin or pins, so you might have to calculate the shear values for the pins.  Flow rates are important.  Calculating flow coefficient(Cv) is important. Torque requirements at various pressure differentials are important to be able to calculate.

If you read API 609, it should tell you just about everything you need to know regarding the design of butterfly valves.

Best Regards.

VRF
