Lookin to learn about engraving steel pipe at high speed with a laser

Hello,

I've been perusing some of these threads in the laser forums and it seems to me you guys really know your stuff! As for me, I have no experience with lasers, all I know is my dog really likes to chase the red dot.

What I would like to do:

Engrave/etch information into steel while it is being manufactured into pipe/conduit... at a high speed, the fastest line we have moves at about 1010fpm/16.8fps.

Questions I have:
(I don't necessarily expect you guys to be able to answer these, but even if you speculate or make generalizations I'd appreciate it, as I said I don't know really anything about this application)

Are there optical systems out there that can move the beam fast enough to write on something moving at 16.8fps?

If they do exist, another question is where in the process I would want to implement the laser? if I do it before the pipe is galvanized, I need to make sure the zinc would still bond to the steel evenly so the information engraved is still visible.

Does steel that has been exposed to radiation of a laser change the steels properties significantly? (I guess I'm expecting a general answer here)

Do you guys have any suggestions of which companies/laser manufacturers I should look into?

I have more questions, but lets start with these haha

Thanks a lot guys!

-Pat

You may want to contact Trumpf, they have a wide range in the  TruMark series for marking and engraving.

You're definitely looking at a galvo system due to the speed... fiber is your best bet for marking steel directly.

Talk to Trumpf, Synrad...

Thanks folks!

I've looked into their product lines and made request for contact with a applications engineer or tech rep.

thanks again
