EN353 (815m17) - closest aisi grade?

EN353 (815m17) - closest aisi grade?

(OP)
Looking to find the closest grade of steel with an american designation to EN353. I have tried looking at online equivalent charts but they all have that row blank for american so there must not be an equivalent aisi grade... what would be the closest? we are currently using 4140 but maybe there is a grade that is closer in chemical/physical properties that is also still easy to procure. Thanks

RE: EN353 (815m17) - closest aisi grade?

As you have discovered, there is no exact equivalent.  4140 is not even close, because it is a standard medium-carbon, quench and temper alloy steel, while 815M17 is a low-carbon, case-hardening steel.  The closes equivalent that is still relatively available is 4320 according to SAE J404.  There is a lot of composition overlap between the two grades, with both possessing high hardenability for quenching thick sections.  Is this for a gear?

for a nozzle for use in high temperatures

I find that EN24 grade of steel is more commonly used for burner nozzles.
