Corrosion rates tables for carbon steel

Corrosion rates tables for carbon steel

(OP)
Dear all,

Where can I find some graphs that show --corrosion rates-- of Carbon Steel in rural atmospheres?
I am thinking about carbon steel piping in fire suppression systems that have stagnant water in them

So corrosion on the outside and on the inside.

Does anyone have the Carbon and Alloy Steels from ASM? Does that have something in it?

Thanks,

Herc

RE: Corrosion rates tables for carbon steel

Your best bet is the guidelines from the manufacturers and NFPA. You have several problems like location of said pipe and most
if not all you are going to have a problem MIC,
Microbiological Induced Corrosion, in the stagnant water.
If this a fire suppression system you can find some very specific
guidelines for a wet system. On of the biggest problems with
external corrosion is where you have swings in temperature
and the line sweats. Your line will have to be coated to
mitigate this to some extent.  Some codes and guidelines require a suppression system to be coated, normally Red.

As for MIC this is a whole new ball game.
Here is one article on corrosion is suppression systems. There are many others.
