Simulate tensile test with damage, ideas?

Simulate tensile test with damage, ideas?

(OP)
Hello everybody,

I want to simulate a tensile test using "damage for ductile metals" and "ductile damage". ABAQUS requires three parameters:
-Equivalent fracture strain at damage initiation
-stress-triaxiality
-strain rate

Currently, I defined an elastic and plastic behavior. I do not understand how to select a first set of parameters for the "ductile damage".

Does anyone have experience in this type of simulation? Thank you in advance for your help.

Regards.

RE: Simulate tensile test with damage, ideas?

You should go through the Hooputra's paper, referenced in the damage initiation section of Abaqus analysis user's manual (23.2.2).

Thank you amubashar,

I already read this section of the manual of ABAQUS. I do not understand the role of the parameter "strain rate". Can you give me more details please?

Thank you in advance.

strain rate = how fast are you applying strain. google tensile test and strain rate, they are standardised anyway.
we did it with voronoi cells (very thin wire, the voronoi represented the crystal structure) and cohesive elements and with aniso elasticity + crystal plasticity for constitutive models, but i don't recommend it, if you don't like waiting for a week for results.
