Cavitation in a Valve

I am beginning design on a valve intended to feed/expand liquids (like NH3) from subcooled liquid state to saturated or mixed state. I expect there will be some cavitation, but of course I'd like to minimize it.

Can anyone recommend good sources to give me background (either empirical or analytical) on how valve part geometry affects cavitation?

Fisher provides a lot of details regarding this in their literature.  I'm sure all of the other major manufacturers have the same.  I'd contact your local Fisher, Valtek or Masoneilan sales office and request some catalogs if you don't already have them.

Neles-Jamesbury also has a book called..."The Valve Book" that has some info on cavitation.

If you have very good process information usually you can work with a manufacturer to get the best valve for your situation.  Sometimes they will suggest a custom solution.
