Lower the Silt Density Index before RO filters
Lower the Silt Density Index before RO filters
(OP)
Have any of you had any success in lowering the Silt Density Index (SDI) of your water with chemical injections, such as coagulants or dispersants, before it enters the Reverse Osmosis (RO) filters? We've tried one company, but we had no luck. We've also modified the filters to various sizes, but still, no luck. Any recommendations or alternatives? It's cutting the life of our RO filters in half.
Thanks for any feedback!

RE: Lower the Silt Density Index before RO filters
I have seen inline filtration systems effectively reduce the SDI. A power plant in Texas with a surface water source is using a 2 stage multimedia filter system to effective remove the suspended solids prior to RO. An inline multimedia filter with polymer is used as a roughing filter and the roughing filter is followed by a multimedia polishing filter.

If your water usage is very high compared to the specifications of your filters will always have problems with your water quality.
