Modelling of Rivets, Bolts and Screws in ABAQUS

Modelling of Rivets, Bolts and Screws in ABAQUS

Modelling of Rivets, Bolts and Screws in ABAQUS

(OP)
Hallo Everyone,

I need some help in defining rivets, screws and bolts in ABAQUS.

I am trying to do a crash simulation. Some parts of my car are joined by rivets, screws and bolts. As of now, I have used MPCs for all.

I think this makes the model bit stiffer than it actually is and hence I believe this is not a good FE modeling practice.

My question is, is it right to model screws, bolts and rivets in this way?

Can anyone tell me, how I can model rivet, bolt and Screws in an FE Model using ABAQUS.

Thanks a lot in advance!!!

RE: Modelling of Rivets, Bolts and Screws in ABAQUS

There ia a feature för modelling screws and bolts in solid with pretension. in CAE: Load > bolt load

Hallo Portliner,

Thanks a lot for the reply. But i believe i cant use it. I am using ABAQUS/Explicit and bolt loads are for ABAQUS/CAE.

Does anyone else have a suggestion?

P.S: I am new in the field of CAE.

Look into this chapter of Abaqus Example Problems Manual:
- 1.2.3 Buckling of a column with spot welds in Abaqus Example Problems Manual
They use fasteners.
