Power demand for Workshops/Factory Units

Power demand for Workshops/Factory Units

Power demand for Workshops/Factory Units

(OP)
Hi,

I need to give an estimation of the maximum power demand for a site containing 30 Workshops/Factory Units.

A Factory Unit is an empty shell containing floor space and high bay ceiling for tenants to use as car repair workshops, tool manufacturing, etc...

The units vary in size from 150 sq. m to 300 sq. m, and have a small office+toilet+kitchenette.

Anything specific to Australia much appreciated.

Thanks.

RE: Power demand for Workshops/Factory Units

The old IEEE Grey Book has some tables that might be of some use.

You'll obviously have to make some assumptions.  You can hedge your bets by perhaps overbuilding the conductors/connectors, services, etc and undersizing the transformers, which can be replaced fairly easily.  Or don't install the transformers until some tenants arrive.  In the US, they'd generally be waiting for a long time these days.

Thanks for the reply.

You mean Table 15 in IEEE 241? it says for a bakery to take 12.1 W/ft2 = 121W/sq.m

taking 200 sq. m area, this gives 24kW or 40A only ...

I'll do some assupmtions as you say, i just want to compare them with somehting logical. I know the more amps you give them the better the unit will rent or sell, but i don't want the supplier to ask for a zone substation if you know what i mean ...

RE: Power demand for Workshops/Factory Units

You can check NEC section 220 for some commercial information.
All Lighting and A/C at 100%.
