Seal chamber pressure -

Seal chamber pressure -

Seal chamber pressure -

(OP)
How do you determine the seal chamber pressure? Is this specified by the pump manufacturer? Does it have to be measured or any equations?

Why is the seal chamber pressure an important parameter for mechanical seal selection?

RE: Seal chamber pressure -

MrsLag,
THERE ARE SOME FORMULA THAT CAN HELP IN SOME PUMPS.
BUT SEAL CHAMBER PRESSURE WILL DEPEND ON:
-SUCTION PRESSURE.
-DISCHARGE PRESSURE.
-PUMP DESIGN, (OVERHUNG, DOUBLE SUCTION, VERTICAL, ETC)
-IMPELLER DESIGN (OPEN OR CLOSE).
-USE OF BACK WEAR RING.
-USE OF BACK VANES.
-USE OF BALANCE HOLES IMPELLER.
-USE OF SUCTION RECIRCULATION PLAN.
-USE OF DISCHARGE RECIRCULATION PLAN.
-USE OF BALANCE LINES.
AND IT IS VERY IMPORTANT, SOME MECHANICAL SEALS MFG PUBLISH "MECHANICAL SEAL CURVE" DEPENDS OF SEAL CHAMBER PRESSURE, RPM AND MATERIAL FACES.
SEAL CHAMBER PRESSURE DETERMINE SOMETIMES GRADE OF BALANCE OF MECHANICAL SEAL AND THE FRICTION HEAT GENERATE.

RE: Seal chamber pressure -

Hi Mrslag,
Seal chamber pressure is very important as this is one parameter that a seal manufacturer will need in proposing a seal plan.
