Steel formwork and finishes

Steel formwork and finishes

Steel formwork and finishes

(OP)
We have been working with steel formwork for concrete surfaces to receive tiling with a rendered background.

When comparing the strength of the render to steel formed concrete and timber formed concrete the latter is tops.

Is there any technique which can be used to improve the cohesiveness of the tiles to steel formed concrete?  (Not including spatterdash).

RE: Steel formwork and finishes

Hello.  I work for a company that designs and build steel forms and would like to help you out if I can, but I don't understand your question.

What is the problem you are having with the steel forms?

RE: Steel formwork and finishes

I believe your problem is TOO good of a finish from your steel forms, correct?

The grain of the wood typically provide some level of "roughness" to the form surface - steel forms provide quite a slick finish.

So, getting a rougher finish from steel forms? If the depth of the existing steel forms is not critical or can be adjusted, adding a wood or polymer facing with a rough grain or pattern may give a desirealbe result while still benefitting from the durability of the steel.

I do not know your application, but feel free to expand and see if others have applicable experience.

Thanks to all of you for your "prompt" replies. I originally posted the query 5 years ago.

Since then we have built approximately 146,000m2 of residential and hotel accomodation using steel formwork.

My experience has shown that it is better to use the spatter coat, although occasionally e can escape with a bonding coat.

Generally our tiles and render have remained on the walls.

Best Regards,

NB
