Curve Driven Pattern useing 3D curve with tangent to curve option

(OP)
I am trying to create a pipe. It is actually a heat sheild with raised ribs spaced 1.5" apart.  I have created the overall shape of the shield useing the sweep feature and a 3D curve.

I am now trying to use the Curve Driven Pattern feature to pattern the shape of the ribs, useing the origonal 3D curve for the pipe.  In the Feature Properties menu, I select tangent to curve, in order to align the ribs with the pipe, but do not know what to select as the "normal face" to complete the function.

Any help would be appriciated as I an a novice user of Solidworks.

The version I am useing is SW Preminum 2011
