flange design

flange design

Dear All,
in page no:37 of 136 in Design calculations of heat exchanger in Halim galala book the ouside diameter of gasket is caculated by using the correlation (B.C.D-d)-2*13.

in that i didn't understand the number 2*13 ?
even if i consider it as a product of 2 & 13 the result doesn't make any sense.

in page no:36 of 136 in the same book h1 is calculated, but i didn't find any such type of requirement in the figure given the same page.but gala mentioned refer appendix-2,but in that also the information about h1 is not available .

Thanks to all in advance.

RE: flange design

Is Halim Galala design recognised in your country? Why don't you try perhaps TEMA or ASME codes? You can get a lot more help there.
Cheers,

RE: flange design

Never heard of the book reference. However, if it is a standard gasket design, the OD of the gasket should just fit within the bolts. So the OD should be (bolt pcd - bolt diameter).

Looking at the equation given ... (B.C.D-d)-2*13. is this supposed to mean PCD-d (as above) equation no. 2-13 perhaps ?

The effective outside diameter will be that of the raised face.

thank you for your kind reply..i checked whether it is an equation or a constant after your suggestion...i found that it is not equation.....

i need some information regarding gasket dimensions...ASME code says nothing about the gasket dimensions like ,width(N),outside dia, inside dia and no of bolts and bolt sizes(standard relations)..

i need those details can you give some information regarding this...

thanking you in advance,

RE: flange design

JyothiPrakash, you might take a look at the TEMA standards, or perhaps HEI standards.

Regards,

Mike

RE: flange design

JyothiPrakash, you may be able to find Taylor Forge Bulletin 502 online, very helpful.

RE: flange design

Who would buy a pressure vessel designed per 'Abdel Halim Galala', by someone downloading this freeware from inet!? Has anyone aproved this design?

Hello gr2vessels,

first of all you should aware that Halim gala design is based on ASME and TEMA code only. no other procedure involved in his design.

You mistaken me that i am designing completely based on Halim galala design...its absolutely not, its just for understanding the code.

Net is one of the major source for getting knowledge..so,every one has right to use the net....

i am not selling a pressure vessel to any body...i am doing a project in desalination..for this purpose only..

So,kindly, if you are interested to share the knowledge please reply me with proper answer ...no force in this....

RE: flange design

Indeed, the net has become a source of general information, but that's long way from designing pressure vessels of any kind. Please read my previous reply as an alarm to you. Learning the design is one commendable thing and actually using a non recognised method of calculation, even based on ASME and TEMA is another thing. Also, be aware that designing a pressure vessel atracts enormous responsibility. Giving it to someone to build it is the same as selling it, even if it is for a desalination plant. Sorry for the long lecture.
No, I'm sorry, I won't comment and reply to your original post. I feel immoral to help you with this design.
Cheers,
gr2vessels
