Creating holes in Assembly Design

Creating holes in Assembly Design

Creating holes in Assembly Design

(OP)
Hi all,
I post a very stupid question - I know that. I found a similar thread here (http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=160257&page=78) but I can't understand DBezaire's solution.
Anyway, I need to create an hole through some parts in a single product (Assembly Design). I tried with Insert/Assembly features/Hole but I can only select edges and not any surface or plane. What's my error, please? Thanks for your help.

RE: Creating holes in Assembly Design

Vaina,
Go to Tools - Options - Infrastructure - Part Infra - General.  Turn off the option Restrict external selection with link to published elements.

OR

You will need to publish the face/plane you want to select to keep the link
There are threads on why you should publish items but to publish the items, activate the part with the point and plane you want to use for the hole location and direction
select the point
tools - publication
select the plane while the publication menu is still up and it will be added to the list.
Select OK

Go back to assembly design and retry your selections

Regards,
Derek

Thank you very much for your kind explanation. I had no idea about the meaning of 'publication' in CATIA - no reference in my manual. Now I'm able to edit the assembly. I'll take a deeper look about publication later - I can't still understand the reason under this option smile
