Name plate replacement of part of a vessel

Name plate replacement of part of a vessel

Name plate replacement of part of a vessel

I have got a quick one.  Can someone point me in the right direction for nameplate requirements on replacing the top 2/3rds of a vessel.  The bottom 1/3 has been in service and will be welded to the top 2/3rds which will be all new.

TIA

RE: Name plate replacement of part of a vessel

Assuming you are working under ASME Sect VIII and/or NBIC, there will be NO nameplate replacement.  Just an additional one.

If the new top is a revised design, it is an "Alteration" and is documented on an "R-2" form, with an "R"-stamped nameplate added next to the "U"-stamped one.

If the new top is an identical replacement, this is a true "Repair", documented on an "R-1" form, and an "R"-stamped nameplate.

Per ASME and NBIC, everything on a Boiler or Pressure Vessel can be replaced, a piece or twenty at a time, and it is still the same vessel.  You just never replace the Code Data "nameplate".

Perfect.  That is what I was hoping for.  Thank you Duwe6.
