How the Construction Industry Has Changed Over the Years......

How the Construction Industry Has Changed Over the Years......

How the Construction Industry Has Changed Over the Years......

(OP)
Just a general question seeking some responses based on personal experiences please:

How has the construction industry changed over the years in regards to structural engineering, and the structural engineers role?

RE: How the Construction Industry Has Changed Over the Years......

Big changes that come to mind are:

1. The rise of Design-Build approach during recent decades.

2. The use of software models during design to minimize the need for changes during construction.

3. The availability of (paper) drawing to a contractor since they can now be easily printed as needed, using software (and each print is as high quality as the original). Much better than  a contractor having to "guard" one clean, on-site print as a reference for reference when the "everyday" field copies get so beat-up, torn and dirty that they can barely be read.

The development of more powerful computers and software.

The introduction of outsourcing to help keep our prices low.
