SA-578, UT Acceptance criteria

(OP)
Hi,

In SA-578 (Specification for straight-beam ultrasonic examination of rolled steel plates for special application), there are three LEVEL of acceptance.
Can anyone tell me what is the difference between these three LEVEL of acceptance, please elaborate in simple language.

Which LEVEL acceptance criteria is stringent of all..?

Regards.

RE: SA-578, UT Acceptance criteria

khati,
Basically the difference between the three acceptance levels is the allowable size of indications.  Level C is the most stringent.

RE: SA-578, UT Acceptance criteria

Khati,

We always purcahse plates (over 15 mm) UT tested in Level B of SA-578 for boiler construction.
See also para. 3.3.3 of Section VIII Division 2 on the subject matter.
