R.F.Pad in Div.2

R.F.Pad in Div.2

R.F.Pad in Div.2

(OP)
hello,

I am designing a Div. 2 vessel, the vessel is neither under lethal service nor under cyclic service. So can we use R.F. pad in nozzle design and If the thickness of the vessel is above 50mm, then also can we use R.F. pad for nozzles?

Please explain.

Regards

RE: R.F.Pad in Div.2

Khati,

I do not see anything in Division 2 that prohibit the use of reinforcing pads except as noted in point no. 3 below.

1- Harmful effects possibly caused by pad type reinforcing shall be evaluated when fatigue analysis is waived off by using para. 5.5.2.2, see also 4.2.5.5(c)(4).

2- You have to take care of the additional requirements of the Code as provided in para. 4.2.5.5(d)(1) through 4.2.5.5(d)(5).

3- You look worried to see vessel thickness over 50 mm, you cannot use pad type reinforcement for the vessels (over 50 mm) when constructed of certain Quenched and Tempered High Strength Steels, see para. 4.2.5.7

It all refers to Edition 2010 of Section VIII Division 2.

Hope it helps.
