High temperature colenoid coil

High temperature colenoid coil

High temperature colenoid coil

(OP)
I need to run a solenoid at 500 deg C around 300 V for R&D work.
6-10 amps
No cooling available.
Continuous duty

Apart from resistance effects of temperature most insulations will be breaking down at temperatures above 150 deg. C

Coil must be fairly compact and wound like traditional solenoid so thick insulation like ceramic beads not feasible.

Can anybody recommend anything?

Many thanks.

RE: High temperature colenoid coil

Use air for insulation.
Cut the conductor from the solid, like a Heli-Cal coupling.

RE: High temperature colenoid coil

You can consider copper tubes wound helically, and cooled internally with water circulation. Electrical insulation, you could have as per your desire.

RE: High temperature colenoid coil

Can you wind a free-standing coil and then repeatedly dip in a slurry, similar to what they do for investment casting?  I believe that is what the do for some power resistors.

RE: High temperature colenoid coil

Look at anodized aluminum strip.
