setting cutting disks on 6metre folder/slitter/metal works

setting cutting disks on 6metre folder/slitter/metal works

(OP)
I am presently working on a very old 6 metre metal folder/slitter machine and have just recently changed the two round cutting disks, however the cut appears to bubble the metal as it is cutting and on the return from the cut it again cuts about 3ml. WhatI want to know is do the cutting disks need to have a forward cut ( the two disks have a centrifical insert) and does the rear of the disks need to be higher than the front. Also does the cutting action need to be higher than the metal bed or level with the bed. Thanks if you can assist.   Fred

RE: setting cutting disks on 6metre folder/slitter/metal works

Fred:

Why not try to get in touch with the original equip. manuf'er. or any manuf'er. of that type of equip.?  What about the people who sold you the new cutters?  I'm sure they will have much better advice for you most of us would, unless someone here is managing that type of equip. on a regular basis.  And, you certainly shouldn't be embarrassed about needing that kind of advice and help.  For final adjustment of that equip. I suspect there are a whole bunch of variables which come into play.  I've seen some of that kind of equip. operate, but never gave much thought to its exact set-up and adjustment.

RE: setting cutting disks on 6metre folder/slitter/metal works

If this is a standard slitter, the discs need to be installed so that the edge away from the cut, is lower than the metal,  The depth of the cut needs to be the minimum to get a clean cut, bubbling or waving on the metal can be two things, one the cutter is set too deep, two the side clearance is too tight. Another problem can be an improperly installed cutter that is not rotating true, i.e. waving as it rotates.
