weld requirment of a pipe goes inside a vessel?

(OP)
if we have a pipe goes inside a vessel, should the pipe spec. goevrened by piping standards or ASME VIII?

Anyone has any idea about the weld requirments of the pipe when pipe goes inside a vessel?

thanks.

RE: weld requirment of a pipe goes inside a vessel?

OK.  The pipe starts out inside the vessel.

Where does it end?     Does it go through the vessel wall or the vessel end cap?

allim...

Generally speaking, if the weld is part of the pressure boundary, the rules of ASME VIII apply.

If not, other rules, including possibly ASME B31.1 and B31.3 ( and others) would apply.

This question has been asked many times before. There is a publication/diagram available from ASME that defines this

All pressure vessel must comply to ASME VII..

When pipe goes inside the vessel and weld, it must undergo Magnetic Particle Inspection.

Is the pipe a "dip-tube" (a pipe projecting inside through a nozzle)?  If the pipe you speak of welds to the shell or head as it passes through, then the pipe is part of the pressure retaining boundary and must meet ASME VIII and ASME II material specifications.  There should also be calculations to support this (for wall thickness and opening reinforcement) utilizating the stress value from ASME II.

forget this aliim person, he's rude and not very considerate of our community. He thinks the site is only for his own benefit, he never answered or thanked any advice, reply from the forum community. Unfortunatelly, a degree is not always indication of education...
