Product Outline

(OP)
Looking through some of the archives, I stumbled across some discussion about the product outline tool and thought it might be fitting to use on some of my large assemblies.

Unfortunatly, I think I am using the tool wrong.  Basically, I navigated to the "define product outline" command, selected several parts, checked the overide color box and increased the transparency to 90% (clicked OK too).

Closing the components in the assembly navigator yielded a "lightweight" assembly so I saved/closed it.

When I re-open the assembly, I expected to see it in this new "lighweight" form but it was not.

Is there a way to open up exactly as I saved it (in this lightweight form)?

RE: Product Outline

Go to you Load Options and set it to load 'Structure Only'.

What the Product Outline provides is a way to show a very lightweight version of the components of the assembly, but only those which are not loaded.  If the component is loaded (opened) then the outline will be hidden and you will see the actual component instead.

RE: Product Outline

@John,
is there a message or update process or must I update the product outline manually when the assembly or members have changed.

RE: Product Outline

If a component changes and you open your assembly so that the component was also open and you save the assembly, the Product Outline will be updated automatically.

Works great when I open structure only as suggested above.  This makes my large assemblies very manageable.
