Corrosion resistance material for Spring

Corrosion resistance material for Spring

Corrosion resistance material for Spring

(OP)

Hello guys,

I have to modify material specification for spring hangers of a plant which is located in severe offshore condition and is dealing with heavy corrosion. On the other hand I'm a stress analyst and don't have too much info of spring material, so can you please advice me of an appropriate material for the spring coil according to the mentioned condition?

Thank you

RE: Corrosion resistance material for Spring

EdwinP,

The most common corrosion resistant spring wire is 302 or 304.  Sometimes 17-7 PH is also used.  It would all depend upon your spring stress, loading, life cycle, etc.

Hope that helps.
Terry
