Change in penstock thickness

Change in penstock thickness

(OP)
Good morning

We have a doubt concerning a change in penstock thickness. Here is the sequence from uphill to downhill:

Diameter: 102"
Lenght: 209ft
Thickness: 36,51mm
Slope: 24°

Then an bend

Diameter: 86"
Lenght: 177ft
Thickness: 31,75mm
Slope: 20°

Then a trifurcation and then the Power House.

Does it makes any sense the change in the pensctock thickness? From 36,51 to 31,75 where the pressure increases and the diameter decreases?

Thanks

RE: Change in penstock thickness

OK.

So, now, you should calculate the stress in the steel at both diameters.

Follow racookpe1978's advice, this will answer your question and with any luck your understanding of the issue will increase.

A question properly stated is a problem half solved.
