How to determine the required Purge Gas for Closed Vessel

How to determine the required Purge Gas for Closed Vessel

How to determine the required Purge Gas for Closed Vessel

(OP)
Hi all,

I need to determine the rate of purge gas required to fill up the vapor space in a closed drain drum during pumping out operation of the drain liquids from the vessel. The purge gas is required to prevent the vessel against implosion.

The designed pumping rate of the closed drain pump is 60m3/hr, vessel dimension is 3.5m dia. and 10m T/T, the design pressure of the closed drain drum is 100 psig.

What formula and steps should i use to determine the purge gas rate?

Thanks for your anticipated cooperation,

Asade

RE: How to determine the required Purge Gas for Closed Vessel

The easy answer is obviously 60 actual m3/hr of purge gas.  If you can exactly replace the displacement, there will be no pressure reduction.

Good luck,
Latexman
