Please how do you easily select hidden faces to define Assembly mates?

(OP)
This is driving me nuts! This should be quite simple??? I need to set assembly relationships between faces that are concealed. How do I do this?

PS: Is there an equivalent in SolidWorks to the little SolidEdge menu that displays all selectable entities under the cursor for easy selection - This would solve my problems.  I MUST be missing something here!

Thanks for any help.
