Assembly context task: Projection from another componet

Assembly context task: Projection from another componet

Assembly context task: Projection from another componet

(OP)
Hi,
I am working at the moment in an assembly context. I need to create in one of the components a sketch, using projection from another component.
Is that possible?
I get a message that specify:- "Projection into the sketch plane failed: the selected elements cannot be projected"

Can someone give me a solution for this issue?
Thanks!

RE: Assembly context task: Projection from another componet

It sounds like you have Restrict external selection with link to published items on.  This is good if you want to design in context of the assembly.
Which scenario are you looking for.

projected without link
project with link

Projected without link you can turn on the Create Datum icon (2 boxes with red lightening bolt) to create unlinked geometry. If you want this to be the standard between parts the option for this is located tools - options - infrastructure - part infra - General.

Project with link you will need to publish the item to project.  To do this activate Part A (projection part) (double pick inside part to activate)
select item
Tools - Publication
Double pick inside Part B (receiving part)
Double pick sketch
Project - Pick published item.

Regards,
Derek
