Major Problem with NX 7.5.4.4?

Major Problem with NX 7.5.4.4?

Major Problem with NX 7.5.4.4?

(OP)
Hola!

First, could someone explain how I go about submitting a problem to the GTAC server, or is there a FAQ somewhere explaining it? Is a "problem" the same as an "incident"?

I recently installed NX 7.5.4 and have been modeling, and using CAM without a problem. Today I started a new drawing of a part, and I'm unable to section it. Actually, I get the section lines to display, but no section view! I've checked on our other computers that have NX 7.5.4, and they all experience the same thing. sad

Luckily I had not installed NX 7.5.4 on our laptop which is still running NX 7.5.3.3. Sectioning is working properly.
A co-worker has also just completed a system restore and the section view is working for him too, although he went back to NX 7.5.2.5.

Thanks Ben!

Problem solved! It's NOT an NX problem after all. Somehow, "Create Section Line" was toggled "Without Section View". Odd.
In any event, a simple 2 minute call and I'm back to work. smile

RE: Major Problem with NX 7.5.4.4?

BTW, just so that you all understand the process, when you contact GTAC an IR (Incident Report) is automatically opened (there may be exceptions if the question can be answered immediately and there is no need for follow-up, perhaps like what happened in your case) but only if it's been verified as an actual problem with the software will an IR be converted into a PR (Problem Report).  So technically, customers can't actually have a PR opened, they can only report an INCIDENT and it's the responsibility of a GTAC and/or development person to say that this constitutes a PROBLEM or not (or in some cases an ENHANCEMENT).  If an IR is converted into either a PR or an ER, the user's contact information will be included with the record and when and if the issue is resolved, the user will automatically receive a notice to that effect.

RE: Major Problem with NX 7.5.4.4?

I'm having issue with sectioning in 7.5.4 myself. For some reason I keep getting the error "view did not update" upon creation of the view and I get the detail error report saying "Error: Unable to subtract solids for sectioning." Never had this issue until we got into 7.5.4. Any suggestions? Hopefully mine is a simple solution as well.

RE: Major Problem with NX 7.5.4.4?

May I suggest that you go back to your original model (and if it's an assembly, this can be done while in the assembly file itself) and run an...

Analysis -> Examine Geometry...

...operation on all of the solid bodies in the part file(s).  Note that when a Section View is created, in the background a series of something like a Boolean 'Subtract' is performed in order to get the geometry of the 'sectioned model' which is then displayed in the newly created section view.  If there are consistency problems with the Master Model's topology or there are some self-intersecting faces, they will show up when creating a section view the same as would occur if you had attempted to cut your models in half using a Boolean Subtract while working in the Modeling module.

RE: Major Problem with NX 7.5.4.4?

Bumping an old thread:
I have the same error as jakerooni:
"Error: Unable to subtract solids for sectioning."
Examine geometry does not seem to give any errors.
The problem only occurs when I put my section through one specific line in the drawing. Any ideas?

RE: Major Problem with NX 7.5.4.4?

Move your section by a very small amount (a fraction of a mm/in) and see if that helps.  In many cases Boolean anomalies can be avoided with changes at the 4th or even 5th decimal place.  That's how sensitive it can be at times.

RE: Major Problem with NX 7.5.4.4?

Thx John, that made it work. It's not how I'd prefer to do it, however, but I guess it will have to do. (I wanted to section a hydraulic cylinder in half. Now it's in "almost-half").
