CODE CASE 2418 for S32101 Material
CODE CASE 2418 for S32101 Material
(OP)
Hi All,
Can anyone provide a copy of code case 2418 or suggest where I could find one? Is it true that ASME provides code cases for free to all the code users? Did anyone experience strength welding S32101 tubes to c/stl clad with S32101 tubesheet? This is the first time we are trying to use this material and have no clue how to/where to start from.
Thanks in advance for your response.

RE: CODE CASE 2418 for S32101 Material
There have been some real problems trying to weld lean duplex tubes directly to carbon steel tube sheets. Recommendations are to use a high nickel filler metal to get good results. However, provided your clad is thick enough that the entire strength weld is fully encompassed in the clad and does not melt into the carbon steel backer, you should have no problem making the weld. Typical filler metal is ER2209. You can use weld procedures typically used for Alloy 2205.

Thanks again.

MikeMet has provided you a recommended filler metal. Nickel base alloy fillers (E/ERNiCrMo-X) could also be used. Limit Interpass Temperature.
RE: CODE CASE 2418 for S32101 Material
I am running a design using S32101 wld tubes and c/stl tubesheet with 5/16" tk S32101 overlay. Tubes are strength welded to tubesheet. Current code does not include S32101 material and the only way I can get the stress values and other required data is through that code case.
Thank you for your response. I will go through section IX for welding info.

Assuming that the expchanger will be U stamped, you will need to obtain a copy of the Code Case. If it is not stamped, please provide the design temperature and thickness.
