Connector Help

Connector Help

RE: Connector Help

Those only connect one wire so you will need two.
You should mention the voltage you will be connecting.
If you use two connectors there may be a back feed when one is connected and the other is not. In some installations this is not acceptable.
Check (Google) welding cable connectors and battery cable connectors.
Here is a sample:

RE: Connector Help

You will not find 4 mm banana sockets or plugs rated at 40 A. Go for another connector.

Half full - Half empty? I don't mind. It's what in it that counts.

(OP)
To clarify, when I said two wires I meant there is one wire coming in from one side of the sheet metal and another on the other side, with the connector connecting the two and fixing them to the sheet metal panel.
I think it is around 20V.

they will be soldered on, so it can be any kind of connector

RE: Connector Help

You might also want to google "Power Connectors".  These guys have some high amperage connectors:

RE: Connector Help

Although 40A is typically considered to be high current, in the automotive field it's kinda middle of the road. Have a look in the automotive electrical section of your local stores for what should be a wide selection of connectors that can handle 40A and more.

RE: Connector Help

Look for battery connectors. Anderson is a big player in that, but most battery connectors are going to be 2 pole.

The only 1 pole connector like that I can think of are what are being used in Solar Panel installations now. Some of those are rated at 40A, like the Wieland PST series. You want the "Bulkhead" connector for your panel, then you will have to use their mating plug. You can get the bulkhead connector as the male or female, but be careful with those Wieland part numbers, they seem to have some gender confusion as I recall.

Other people make these solar connectors, but most are rated 30A, I think Wieland may be the only one that is 40A.

RE: Connector Help

There is a large type of banana plug and jack, but they're less common and rather expensive.

You also might check into welding connectors (google it). They look something like banana jacks/plugs, but are larger, and sold by many welding supply companies.

RE: Connector Help

A couple of questions to keep in mind:

Will this connector be switching 40 amps (plugging in to a live circuit) or just conducting the current once it's mated?

How many insertion cycles do you need?

RE: Connector Help

Not sure I understand the application, but I have used welding connectors for medium and high cutters applications, such as the 'Dinse' range. I would recommend a look onto them.

RE: Connector Help

Cutters? Of course I meant current, tiny keypad on my phone!
