Support for PSV discharge piping.

(OP)
Hey,

I am a new engineer and I am trying to research the following topic for my boss.

Our company is trying to evaluate the need for support for the discharge piping on a pressure relief valves. So my question is:

1)Out in the industry what is the standard? I researched API 520 and it does not seem to say that we HAVE to have one.

2)Is this a case by case scenario?

Regards,

Anar

RE: Support for PSV discharge piping.

Just look at the discharge area of the relief valve and multiply it by 2x the relief pressure in psig ; then see if the force can be sustained by the structure. No need for specs.
