Difference between Maintenance Release and Maintenance Pack?

Difference between Maintenance Release and Maintenance Pack?

Difference between Maintenance Release and Maintenance Pack?

(OP)
Hola!

What's the difference between a Maintenance Pack and a Maintenance Release?

I ask because June 17 saw the release of Maintenance Release NX 7.5.4 (1.15 Gb) which I DL'd and installed.
Then on June 24 Maintenance Pack 2 (MP2) for NX7.5.3 (205 Mb) was released.

Should I install Maintenance Pack 2 despite the NX version now being higher (7.5.4 vs 7.5.3)?

RE: Difference between Maintenance Release and Maintenance Pack?

In a maintenance release are the maintenance packs included.  So if you had NX 7.5.4 installed you're ok, it has MP2 for NX 7.5.3.

Best regards,

Michaël.

I was hoping that was the case. Thanks!

RE: Difference between Maintenance Release and Maintenance Pack?

The heirarchy is:
Full release (7.0.0.0)
Point release (7.2.0.0)
Mainteneance release (7.2.1.0)
Maintenance pack (7.2.1.2 - 7.2.1 mp2)

Full Releases - anything new is allowed
Point release - limited new functionality, usually to prepare things for the next full release
ususally upward and downward compatable within the full release number
Mainteneance release - bug fixes that must get out, ususally recommended that all customers upgrade to this
Mainteneance pack - specific to a MR, usually only installed at the direction of GTAC to fix a specific bug

The later MR version (7.2.3) will have the fixes from 7.2.1 and 7.2.2 included.

RE: Difference between Maintenance Release and Maintenance Pack?

A Maintenance Release (aka MR or QRM) is a scheduled update to a release. It can contain fixes and enhancements, but no changes to the part file database, so files can be opened in the main release.

A Maintenance Pack (MP) is a patch that contains fixes. Customers usually only install these if they need the fix for a problem they have reported.

FYI Ben - a point release is not backward compatible ;*)

RE: Difference between Maintenance Release and Maintenance Pack?

Mark,

Any idea why I am getting this error:
Install Failed "Failed to open registry key SOFTWARE\Unigraphics Solutions\NX\7.5.0
Possible causes for the problem:
The 32 bit version of NX is not installed.
The file "C\Data\dvdrom0754\ugs_update0754\run_ugsupdate.ini" does not properly define nx_registry_hive."

I currently have NX 7.5.3.3 loaded.

Kasey7:

If the MP explicitly says that it was built for NX 7.5.3 than DO NOT attempt to install it on NX 7.5.4.

vball85jb:

Sounds like you were trying to install a 32-bit update on a 64-bit version of NX.

I wish my pc was 64 bit, but it is not.
