Bottom plate thickness

Bottom plate thickness

Bottom plate thickness

(OP)
hi guys,

can anyone give us some idea how API 650 calculated the bottom plate thickness?

Thanks,

RE: Bottom plate thickness

There is no calculations for the bottom plate.  The floor is just a min of 6mm as good practice.

However, if you actually mean the annular ring then according to a text book I read long time ago clarified that the annular ring is sized as a cantilevered beam (fixed at the bot shell to ring juction) to support a column of liquid.  This is on the assumption that the foundation has settled and this width of ring has to be able support the column of liquid.

RE: Bottom plate thickness

Our specification for tank bottom thickness is as the above 1/4" minimum or equal to the first ring thickness which ever is larger. If the first ring is 5/16" the the bottom plate is to be 5/16". All our tank bottoms, both alloy and CS, are also butt welded no lapped seams.
